DeviantArt has recently changed its policies regarding the ability for users to report art that has been stolen and put on display here, regardless if credit is given to the original artist or not. They have taken the stance that this isn't true "theft", which I find absurd. An artist should have complete control over their material, and by law in the U.S. as soon as a piece of art is created it is also protected by copyright. There are entire galleries of scumbag users on here that are nothing more than stolen artwork. DeviantArt is condoning this behavior by the removal of the option to report works that are believed to not be owned by the user. I find this intolerable, and also shits all over the people who have built this site with their hard work in the form of the art they display here. The problem is an artist cannot possibly be everywhere on the internet at once, to try and ensure their creations are being used in the manner they see fit. DA has decided that the default wishes for all artists is "hey do anything you want with my work", instead of the way it should be - get permission to display their art. So, in protest, I have removed all of my art from this site. I will not allow a site which doesn't care about the content creators to host my art, and I will never again submit a single photo or piece of art to this site.

You can read their ridiculous stance on "art theft" here:

I noticed that you will be at Sakura-Con 2013. My friend and I would like to schedule a photoshoot with you at the convention and would be willing to pay you for it. Let me know if you're interested. I go by the same username on the Sakura-Con forums.

Sounds good to me. I'll be available on Fri and Sun to take pictures, so if either of those days work for you let me know of a time and spot you'd like to meet and we can figure out a good location.
